What is Schengen ETIAS?
ETIAS is the European Travel Information and Authorization System, designed as a pre-travel authorization system, similar to the United States’ Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Its primary objective is to strengthen internal security within the Schengen Zone—a group of European countries that have abolished passport and other types of border control at their mutual borders. The system will help EU authorities assess the eligibility of travelers prior to their arrival, allowing for a more efficient screening process. We have listed the 30 countries below that will require the ETIAS.

Who Needs the European Travel Information and Authorization System?
Nationals of 60 countries currently exempt from the Schengen visa requirement will need to apply for ETIAS before arriving in Europe. These countries include destinations such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and several others. This means that while visitors from these nations will not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days), they must obtain ETIAS authorization to enter the Schengen Area. The European Travel Information and Authorization System will last for 3 years or until your passport expires. ETIAS is linked to a traveler’s passport, so if you change your passport due to loss or expiration, you will need to make a new application.
