EU e-gates for UK citizens: What’s changing?

The UK and EU are nearing a deal to allow British travellers to use EU e-gates from May 2025, cutting airport queues and speeding up border checks. This would ease post-Brexit travel restrictions, reducing manual passport stamping across Europe. The agreement is pending and linked to wider UK-EU negotiations at a major 2025 summit.

Europe's EES & ETIAS launch delayed again

The EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES), a digital border control system, has been delayed again, now expected to launch gradually starting October 2025. Preparations vary across member states, with some still installing biometric tech and training staff. The EU plans to remove Schengen visa requirements for Saudi citizens, allowing visa-free travel to Europe soon, though no timeline is set yet. Meanwhile, Saudi nationals can apply for a new five-year multiple-entry Schengen visa since April 2024. The EU aims to extend similar visa exemptions to other Gulf countries, joining the UAE, which already enjoys visa-free access. Starting late 2025, visa-exempt travelers will need ETIAS pre-travel authorization for Europe visits.

Travelers must have valid passports, obtain the correct authorizations or visas, and carry travel insurance. Additionally, several European countries offer digital nomad visas with tax benefits.
